Firmware Developer

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Our client is a leading global provider in satellite voice, satellite data and complete end-to-end telematics services, whose business ranges across various industry sectors with a focus on niche marine solutions and customer defense and security products.

The Position:

Currently they are looking for both a senior and junior firmware engineer who can help them on a project aimed at the development of a satellite centric IoT platform; interoperable with the emerging IoT standards of the cellular and WAN markets. This firmware engineer’s role will be to contribute towards new product development by the IoT team with your firmware expertise and will involve interacting with external vendors and parallel teams.

The Role:

  • Create world class firmware for satellite centric IoT devices
  • Take ownership of critical design and development areas of the products and systems
  • Interact with cross-functional engineering teams across business lines for cohesive product development
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate closely with other IoT developers
  • Build robust methodologies and processes to deliver high quality product’s

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in software / firmware development
  • Experience in programming in C
  • Experience with RTOS, embedded firmware, drivers and interfaces
  • Ability to integrate and verify embedded software on hardware
  • Familiarity with continuous integration tools (Subversion, GitHub, Jenkins)
  • Experience with low data rate satellite communication (Iridium SBD, Inmarsat IDP)
  • Scripting experience with Java Script
